Mario Feat. Nicki Minaj – Somebody Else

Nicki Minaj is gearing up for a long summer full of new music. Judging by the sounds of her first feature, it’s also going to be a hot one! Only last week, she said during her “American Idol”press conference, that a slew of new features will be hitting up the internet soon. Talk about a quick turnaround! See more on YoungMoney.com.

Her first feature of the summer is with Mario, who grabs the Queen Barb for his soul and R&B track “Somebody Else”. You will be able to find this great collaboration on his upcoming fifth studio album!

Nicki recently spoke about her rapping skills in an interview with MTV, saying that she believes in her talent as a MC deeply. This is certainly a testament to her lyrical abilities, as she compliments the vibed out track with a smooth flow and heartfelt delivery. It certainly adds a nice touch to Mario’s soft singing and the overall feel of the song.

You can officially grab this hot single for your personal library on iTunes here. Be sure to look out for more Nicki material coming soon!

What do you think of the collaboration? Did you like Nicki’s verse?

On the Blue Carpet, Nicki wore a Roberto Cavalli “crimson red georgette silk gown” and red leather pumps by Gianmarco Lorenzi. Nicki’s shoes also featured “an open toe, a platform sole and a concave wedge heel”. See more on YoungMoney.com.

For her edgy performance of “High School” with Lil Wayne, Minaj sported a Frankie Morello Crop Jacket from the “Fall 2012 Ready-to-Wear Collection”. Dope!

What do you think of Nicki’s outfits from the 2013 BBMA’s? Which outfit would you pick to wear if you could only choose one?

Deezo

Deezo is an upcoming, if not already established, rapper from California. He recently released his mixtape, “10Eighty7″, to rave reviews. With special features from Hit-Boy, Problem and more you can expect a wide array of sounds on this gritty, yet catchy mixtape.

Whether he is singing or rapping, Deezo keeps you locked in and in tune as he takes you on lyrical journey through his life growing up in California. While there are plenty of tracks to chill and vibe out to, don’t expect weed anthem after weed anthem though. Deezo tells it how it is and always keeps it 100.

You can download and stream his mixtape here.

Keep reading for the full interview with Runnin With It. Be sure to check out the lead single from the album, “Feel It”, featuring mega-producer Hit-Boy and the rabid Problem.

.
Deezo

Jason
Hey what’s up man? How have you been?

Deezo
Just chillin and stayin busy. I just had a show with Problem and IAMSU! That shit was crazy.

Jason
That’s awesome man! When was the show? How was it?

Deezo
It was on Saturday and was sold out. It was crazy.

Deezo
Jason
That’s awesome. Where was the show at? You guys both just dropped new tapes.

Deezo
Yea, it was at the House of Blues in San Diego.

Jason
Did you guys get to perform your single “Feel It”?

Deezo
Nah, we were trying to work out so I could come out on their set, but it didn’t work out. It’s all good though.

Jason
Yea, well the important thing is that the tracks out and it’s everywhere. How did that collaboration come together?

Deezo
Well, me and my boy made the beat and Problem was out here in California. So I reached out and they liked the track. We sent it to him, he knocked it out in the same night. Through a producer I have worked with, Hit-Boy found out about the track. So went over to his house and he knocked it out. It all came together like that.

Deezo

Jason
That’s sick man. Hit-Boy has been a busy dude this year. He had a couple hits including that “Scream & Shout” song with everyone on it. What was it like working with him?

Deezo
It was crazy. He has a Grammy too, so it’s nice to work with such an accomplished artist. He has worked with Kanye and Wayne, so it’s overwhelming. I never even imagined working with a producer like that, so it’s a big step in where I want to be in my career.
Jason
True man. So how do you think have progressed from “22 Summers” to “10Eighty7”?

Deezo
I think it’s a big step forward with my sound and all that. I think comes just from listening back to my previous work and narrowing down what I want to change and make better. I pretty much just try to record everyday and work on my craft.

Jason
Yea you could definitely hear the growth on tracks like “Tonight” and “Stoplight”. Both songs have unique sounds. One is more a chill and drink type of song and the other one is more introspective.

Deezo
Exactly man. The crazy part about it, the next tape I’m going to try go deeper than songs like “Stoplight”. I know I can, I just didn’t want to come off as a depressing type of dude. So I just try to mix it up. I also always try to do something different than what is out there at the moment. My flow is a bit more unorthodox. I try my hardest to sound different.

Jason
So what’s one thing you tried to focus on the most on your latest tape?

Deezo
I think I thought a lot about how I want to deliver my songs. Everyone in hip-hop is kind of on that Ace Hood-Meek Mill type flow. Everybody’s beats sounds like A$AP and Kendrick. So since I’m getting some looks now, I don’t want a person to write me off as someone who is just trying to hop on a trend to get hot. I want them to see me differently. So my thought process is, “Lemme go in there and be myself and attack everything Ive been through and put it on wax.” So that’s what I’ve been doin. I’ve also been singing a lot now, so just experimenting with different sounds. I make sure if I sing, I’m not talking about no bubblegum bullshit.

Jason
Yea definitely, and not to say you sound alike or anything, but I think Drake has proven you can sing and be a hip-hop artist at the same time.

Deezo
Yea shit man, Nelly’s done it too. I’m one of the biggest Nelly fans in the world. I’ve been getting some comparisons, so that’s cool. He’s sold like 50 million records. I can’t wait til Im at the point in my career where I can reach out to a dude like that and maybe work on something.

Jason
Yea that’s gonna be crazy. So what are some of your favorite tracks off the album? Have you gotten the chance to perform them live yet?

Deezo
Yea, I’ve been doing a lot of shows since the tape dropped. One of my favorite tracks is “Motion Picture”. Of course “Feel It”. That gets a great response. I don’t know, I like to perform all of my music. I feel like this is the most complete projects I’ve done, but if I had to pick one, it would be “Motion Picture”. The fans always give me great feedback. Some new ones too. Music is all I really got, so to get a good response from anyone is crazy to me.

Jason
So are you planning on shooting some videos for the new tracks?

Deezo
Hell yeah! Over the summer we’re gonna do it. I just have to wait for the right time to do it. I have a treatment for “Feel It” and I’m gonna shoot all my individual videos. I just have to wait for everyone to be free. It’s alright though, it gives people more time to take in the songs before they get the visual. I definitely want to try to get on MTV Jams.

Jason
Cool man. So just to wrap it up, are you planning on touring this summer and what should we all look out for?

Deezo
I got a show with Schoolboy Q coming up, so that should be dope. I’d love to perform in New York. BB King’s is a dope spot, SOB’s is great also. We’re also working on a clothing line, just listen to the tape and keep supporting! Shout out to Runnin With It. I appreciate it man.

Jason
Likewise man. Be good.

Deezo
You too. Speak to you soon.

Interview With Folk Singer Natalie Mishell

Natalie Mishell
Natalie Mishell is a folk-rock singer currently living in the vibrant city of New York. She released her last album,”In My Shoes, back in 2010. Now she is back at it again with her brand new album,”Goodnight Stranger”. She will be hosting her album release party this Thursday at the Rockwood Music Hall in New York. Be sure to attend the afterparty where you can meet Natalie and be one the first people to purchase her new album. For now, check out Runnin With Its’ interview with the burgeoning singer. She will be on tour all summer and will be performing in Virginia and Nashville to name a few places.

378821_309113922443997_403831348_n

Jason
Hey what’s up! How have you been since we last spoke?

Natalie
I’ve been good. I’ve been busy. A lot has happened, there is the new record, a tour, a new band, new management. So it’s really good, just a lot is going on.

Jason
That’s cool. So who has officially joined the band?

Natalie
The band and I have previously recorded together in the studio, so it’s pretty much the same people. I have Neil Nunziato on drums, Tony Oppenheimer on bass, Billy Grant on the keys, Troy Fannin on guitar and Neeley Bridges on the mandolin. She’s great, she does backing vocals and she’s really great with harmonies. It’s nice to have a three part harmony and that folky-flair. It has a very rustic sound. Troy is the third member in that.

1360025927917

Jason
Yea, if a three part harmony and mandolin isn’t folk music, I don’t know what is!

Natalie
Haha right. It’s really great. Troy really brings it. He kills it. So even though we have this three part harmony going on, our songs are really jammin. The songs are very easy to listen to. Some of the songs on this record are a bit somber, but the way he plays guitar, brings the songs to life.

Jason
That kind of reminds me a bit of Bob Dylan. When he went electric, everyone thought the songs weren’t folk anymore, but they were. They just had an upbeat rhythm to them.

Natalie
Exactly! That’s what we were going for. I kind of get more inspired to write about the hardships in life and I think most musicians do as well. But I want to keep the listener entertained and wanting more, so you have to have a feeling of a driven beat with some electric flair. Every now and then I will have a slow, heart-breaking song, but you need a little rock in there to spruce things up.

hair_final_frame_Snapseed

Jason
Yea definitely. So who have you been working with in the studio?

Natalie
So this last record has been a long work in progress. It’s called “Goodnight Stranger” and is going to be released May 23. We started a year ago, in June, and started meeting with producers. I wound up clicking with a producer named JP Bowersock who has worked with Ryan Adams and The Strokes. I’m a huge fan of his work, so it was a real honor and pleasure to work with him. His studio was also very old-school, which I felt very comfortable in. The engineer who works with him was also great. His name is Mark Dann. They knew I was on a budget and funding the record myself, but they made sure I was focused on the art and not the time and money.

Jason
Yea, the new album sounds great. It sounds like you have reached a new level. Do you feel that way as well?

Natalie
I definitely do. The major difference between this record and the last one, “In My Shoes”, was that we recorded the tracks live. The first time we recorded it in layers and pieced it together. But on this record, I wanted to go for a more rootsy-folk type vibe. I wanted to capture the vibe of the band. So what you’re hearing is everyone playing together in the studio. We just played the songs over and over to get the sound we wanted. I did a majority of my vocals separately, but there were a couple songs where I recorded it with the band. Those turned out really nice. We did a majority of the recordings done in a 12 hour studio session. We obviously had to go back in to tweak a few things here and there and dub in some spots, but we basically recorded it in one studio session.

IMG_1016_Snapseed_Snapseed1_Snapseed

Jason
Yea it definitely has a nice combination of rock, country, folk and blues.

Natalie
Yea, there a lot of different elements. I like that a lot. There might be a few songs that surprise you. I think a lot of these songs on here are very different from anything I’ve ever done. They each definitely stand out on their own. On “Between The Lines”, which has a very country-folk-bluegrass feel. Then there is material like “Blue Moon”, which is more of a rock type song. Even “Muela West” is an eerie, psychedelic folk song. I like that we started the album off with that song. I think it’s very captivating with the slide guitar.

Jason
Have you performed any of the new material yet?

Natalie
Yea, we’ve been playing the songs for a while now, but there are few songs on there that we haven’t performed yet. A lot of the material is going to be new though for my show this Thursday. For my fans outside of New York, this material will be brand new because I haven’t toured outside of the state in a bit. You can stream “Blue Moon” for now though. I put that out as a bit of a teaser. It will then be available on iTunes once the album drops.

Jason
Cool. So tell me about the tour you’re going on and your album release party.

Natalie
The album release party is at Rockwood Music Hall, this Thursday, May 23. We’ll be performing on stage two. We are very excited about that. They have a smaller stage and a larger one. We’ve played on the small one a bunch of times, but this is our first performance on the big stage. We go on at 7:30 PM. We have a wonderful opener, Julie Catherine, who will be playing an acoustic set at 7 PM. She’s definitely something to check out. She’s a wonderful musician. We’ll be on until 8:30 PM and then we will host the party in the back of Rockwood after the show. It should be really exciting. After that, we will be going on a mini-tour to a few different places. We will be playing at Ashland Coffee And Tea in Virginia and there is a chance we will also play in Richmond. After that we will be going to Nashville, Tennessee where we will be performing two shows. We’re working on booking a third show at the moment. I’ll also be meeting with a few record labels. My new manager, Angelo LaMorte, who runs Force of Nature Entertainment, will be with me. Then, once we get back, we have a New York show at the Bitter End on July 19.

Jason
Cool, well good luck with everything and thanks for talking.

Natalie
You too! Speak to you soon!
